NFL Sunday Ticket Bar Miami: A Guide for Away Fans

Your team plays nowhere near Florida and you want the game on with the sound up. Here's how NFL Sundays work at The Leinster in Edgewater, and what to ask before you go.

Type "NFL Sunday Ticket bar Miami" into a search bar and you're usually one of two people. Either you're a Dolphins fan who wants a loud room, or you grew up somewhere else, your team plays nowhere near Florida, and the local broadcast was never going to carry them. This one is mostly for the second person, with plenty for the first. The Leinster is an Irish pub at 1600 NE 1st Ave in Edgewater, and Sunday here is a football day, with the sound up, no cover charge and no reservation to make.

What an NFL Sunday Ticket bar in Miami actually needs to get right

Out-of-market fans in this city know the routine. You find a place that swears it has all the games, you turn up at kickoff, and your team is on a small screen above the kitchen door with the sound off while the whole room watches something else. The TV package is only part of the story. What decides your afternoon is whether there's a screen with your game on it, whether anyone will turn it up, and whether the kitchen is still going in the fourth quarter.

So here's how we'd suggest handling it, wherever you end up watching. Ring ahead on the Saturday or the Sunday morning and ask about your specific game by name, because a straight yes from a bartender is worth more than a line on a website. Get there before the first kickoff rather than at it, since the seats with a clean angle go early. And tell the bar which game you came for as soon as you walk in, so it lands on a screen before the afternoon gets busy.

How NFL Sundays run at The Leinster

Doors open at 9 AM on Sundays. That early start is really there for the morning European football, but the knock-on effect is that the room is warm and the kitchen is running well before the American games begin. From there we go straight through the early window and the late afternoon window, and Sunday close is 11 PM, so the night game gets a home too, for most of it anyway. Our full hours are Monday to Thursday 3 PM to 1 AM, Friday 3 PM to 2 AM, Saturday 10 AM to 2 AM, and Sunday 9 AM to 11 PM.

The Dolphins are the easy part. Miami games get a screen all season, through January, with the volume where it belongs. If your team is somebody else, we'd rather give you an honest answer than a hopeful one, so call (786) 937-8122 and ask about the game you care about. You'll get a clear yes or no instead of a maybe. Everything we show, league by league, is laid out on the live sports page.

Sound is the other thing people ask about. We turn it up for the big games instead of leaving everything muted in a corner, and if there's one you actually want to hear, say so when you come in. Monday and Thursday night football are simpler still, because we're open until 1 AM on those nights and nobody's racing last call in the fourth quarter.

Food and a proper pint for a long afternoon

A football Sunday done properly is six or seven hours, so the food has to hold up. If you're in for the 9 AM open, the Full Irish Breakfast ($24) will carry you well into the early games. After that it's pub food built for sitting and watching: Fish and Chips ($24) with beer-battered cod, Shepherd's Pie ($22) with lamb and beef, and The Famous Irish Spice Bag ($16), which is the one people at the next table end up ordering after they've seen yours. Wings come with Guinness BBQ sauce or plain, starting at $14 for six. The rest of it is on the menu.

If you've been hunting for a sensible Guinness pint price in Miami, a 20 oz Guinness here is $10.50, and it gets the full two-part pour and the time it needs, which is not something to rush at halftime. Monday is worth knowing about for the Monday night game, because wings are $1.50 as the Monday special. Happy hour runs Monday to Friday from 3 to 7 PM with 25% off everything and a $5 Guinness before 5 PM. It doesn't land on a Sunday, but it catches anyone coming straight from work before a Monday or Thursday kickoff, and the details are on the happy hour page.

The kitchen also stays open late, which matters more than people think. If a night game runs long, or you're coming off a shift and just want late night food in Edgewater with the highlights on, the late-night food is served until close.

Not just football: the Panthers and the rest of the week

Plenty of NFL fans in this city are hockey people too, and if you're looking for where to watch a Panthers game at a Miami bar, Florida open their NHL season away at Carolina on 29 September and we're on for the season from there. The Heat come back with NBA opening night on 20 October, and the Marlins and Inter Miami have their screens as well. On the other side of the room it's Premier League, Champions League and La Liga, which is why a Sunday here can start with a morning kickoff from England and finish with an American night game.

During the week there's more going on than sport. Wednesday is Jeopardy Bar League night at 8 PM, free to play in teams of up to six, and it gets surprisingly competitive for a Wednesday.

Before you head over

Street parking around us is free, several Metromover stations are a short walk, and rideshare drops you at the door, which beats the drive out to the stadium on a day you're not going. There's nothing to book. If you want to be sure about a specific game, ring (786) 937-8122 first, and otherwise just walk into The Leinster at 1600 NE 1st Ave, pull up a stool, tell us who you're cheering for and we'll get the sound up.
