If you have tickets for a show at the Arsht Center, the evening tends to fall apart in two places. The first is beforehand, when you want a proper drink and something to eat without cutting the curtain fine. The second is after, when the lights come up and you are not remotely ready to go home. A good pub near the Arsht Center fixes both, and since we are an Irish pub sitting along the same stretch of Edgewater, here is how we would run your night.
What Makes a Decent Pub Near the Arsht Center
The Leinster is at 1600 NE 1st Ave, in Edgewater. Our menu is Irish food made from scratch and the bar takes Guinness seriously, but on a show night the practical stuff matters more than the romance. We are situated along Biscayne Boulevard between Downtown Miami and the Arts District, which is one of the more walkable corners of the city, and we are minutes from Midtown Miami and Wynwood if your group is coming from that direction.
Getting here is not a project. Street parking is available on NE 1st Avenue and the surrounding blocks, several paid lots are within a short walk, and the Metromover and Metrorail are accessible from nearby stations. Rideshare drops you at the door.
The other thing worth knowing up front: we are walk-in only and we do not take table reservations. On a night when you are already locked into a curtain time, not being locked into a seating time as well is a small mercy. You come in when you get here, and you leave when you need to leave.
Before the Show: Happy Hour Runs Until 7 PM
Happy hour is Monday to Friday, 3 PM to 7 PM, and it is 25% off everything rather than a short list of things nobody ordered anyway. Guinness is $5 before 5 PM, Leinster Lager is $5, and Michelob Ultra is $5 all day. For an 8 PM curtain that means walking in around 5:30, getting a round in, eating properly, and still having time to stroll over.
If you are having a pint of Guinness, give it the 119.5 seconds it is owed. We pour in two parts, let it settle, and top it off, which is the whole reason a pint here tastes different from a pint rushed out of a tap somewhere else. It is a nice thing to do with the twenty minutes you would otherwise spend looking at your phone.
On the food side, the Fish & Chips is $24, beer-battered cod with chips, mushy peas and tartar sauce. Shepherd's Pie is $22, with grass-fed lamb and beef under mashed potato. Bangers & Mash is $19. Any of the three will see you through a three-act show without the kind of heaviness that has you dozing off in the second half. The kitchen is open through happy hour, so you are not limited to snacks.
After the Curtain: The Kitchen Is Still Going
This is the part most people get wrong when they plan a theatre night in Miami. We are open until 1 AM Monday to Thursday, 2 AM on Friday and Saturday, and 11 PM on Sunday, so unless it is a Sunday show you have hours rather than minutes. The kitchen stays open late too, which is the difference between a real second act and standing on a pavement deciding whose apartment has food in it.
Monday to Thursday, happy hour comes back around from 11 PM until close. The Famous Irish Spice Bag is $16 and is exactly the sort of thing you want at that hour: Chinese-spiced fries, peppers, onions, chicken and Irish curry sauce, built to be shared and argued over. If you work in hospitality and the show was your night off, bring a valid server card or a recent pay stub and you get 20% off your tab. Plenty of our late crowd are people finishing their own shifts, so you will be in good company.
Wednesdays, Sundays and Whatever Is On the Screens
Two nights of the week come with something extra attached. Wednesday is the Jeopardy Bar League at 8 PM, free to play, teams of up to six, phone as your buzzer, so a Wednesday show means you will walk back into a room that is already loud and competitive. Sunday we open at 9 AM for the morning football out of Europe, which is a very good reason to make a matinee into a full day.
The rest of the time the screens are doing what they do. Premier League, Champions League, La Liga, NFL and the Dolphins, Ireland rugby, GAA, the Heat, the Panthers and the Marlins, with the sound up and no cover charge. That is the whole plan: come early enough to catch happy hour, walk to your show, and come back to a pub that has not started stacking chairs. No reservation, no cover, nothing to arrange.
